San Diego Supervisor Kristin Gaspar has formally announced her campaign to succeed Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, in Congress, and announced three endorsements.
She announced endorsements from San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Rep. Ed Royce, R-Fullerton, and San San Diego Councilman Scott Sherman, R-Allied Gardens.
“Kristin Gaspar is part of the new generation of Republican leadership that has helped make San Diego Republicans so successful: a commitment to strong fiscal management, protection of taxpayer dollars and a willingness to bring people together to get things done,” Faulconer, a Republican, said in a statement released by her campaign.
Gaspar, a Republican and former mayor of Encinitas, said she also has Democratic support.
“I’ve demonstrated my ability to govern effectively as the Republican mayor of a coastal Democratic city, and I’ve shown my ability to attract crossover votes by winning a seat Hillary Clinton carried by 20 percentage points,” Gaspar said in a statement from her campaign.
